Reggae has always travelled. Born in the heart of Jamaica, it quickly became a global soundtrack for resistance, unity, and spiritual upliftment. From Trenchtown to Tokyo, Accra to São Paulo, reggae’s reach has only grown deeper with time. Every week on A World of Reggae, I explore that very journey — blending the latest conscious cuts with deep roots from every corner of the planet.

The episode aired on 1st December 2025 is a powerful example of how reggae lives, breathes, and transforms across cultures. It’s not just a Jamaican thing. It’s a worldwide movement, and this week’s selections stretch from the Caribbean to North Africa, from the UK to Brazil, with lyrics in English, Arabic, Portuguese, and beyond.

This edition kicks off with the late Nazamba‘s powerful “Raw Born Reggae”, a poetic firestarter that reminds us reggae’s essence is spiritual and revolutionary. From there, we slide into Adama Sunshine’s “Farafin Djougouya”, featuring voices from Côte d’Ivoire and Mali — a musical fusion that’s deeply African yet entirely reggae in its heartbeat.

There’s also conscious commentary from Spellbreakers, heartfelt upliftment by Sheldon Shepherd, and North African dub from Libya’s own Ibrahim Hesnawi and Ahmed Ben Ali. The orchestral rub-a-dub of The Royal Kushite Philharmonic Orchestra brings an entirely different mood, mixing live horns and riddims in tribute to rivers like Zambezi and themes like Divide and Rule.

And it wouldn’t be an Outernationalist session without some heavyweight dub — Total Hip Replacement, Dubmatix, Dubvisionist, and Nazamba return later in the set with deep bass and echo chamber philosophy.
